The Outreach Commission
works to reach out to our communities – our families, friends, neighbors,
co-workers, and strangers that we meet in our daily lives – we can be assured
that Jesus is with us.
While many of us do not feel that we are evangelists
in the formal sense of the word, we all have gifts and talents that we can use
to do what Jesus commanded in the Great Commission.
Listed here is a summary of some of
the activities Outreach committee members were involved in.
“Welcoming Congregation” Program
Mike Krekling helped us kick off this new program by conducting multiple classes
centering on the need to address and receive guests and visitors to Lord of
Life. Many studies have been conducted that revealed to us that those few
critical minutes that a visitor enters the building will a lot of times
determine whether they will return or not. Processes and procedures are in place
to identify all guests at Lord of Life and to make them feel comfortable and
welcome during their worship visit. This program would not be successful without
the support Worship and Nurture Commissions have given via the involvement of
our Ushers and Greeters.
Fall Festival
The Fall Festival was once again a great success this year. Many, many thanks go
to Becky Schultz for another year of wonderful activities and planned events.
The Alpharetta Fire and Police, as well as the Fire Safety house were present.
We also had the Sheriffs department and several other county agencies on site.
The Outreach Commission was involved with signing in all guests and church
members while providing them with literature about Lord of Life and its many
ministries. As Becky Schultz has also taken on a council position, a coordinator
is needed for this yearly event.
Health Fairs
During the Fall Festival, as well as several other times during the year, Lord
of Life has sponsored multiple Health Fairs and Blood Donation drives through
the local blood bank. Many areas of medical screenings were available such as
Blood Pressure, Glaucoma, Hearing, as well as other tests. Thanks to Becky
Schultz and Kathy Williams for all their work in this important health related
ministry. If this is a program that speaks to you and your talents, a new
coordinator is being sought.
Little Church of Hope
Although Lord of Life has helped for years with the Little Church of Hope
ministry, this January 2003 will be the first time that the church has sponsored
it at our location. This ministry is a real outreach into our homeless
community. Transportation is provided both to and from the church for those in
the homeless shelter. The day consists of providing meals, clothing, personal
care, and Marta tokens, as well as interesting discussion groups, prayer, and
sing-a-longs. For this important outreach ministry event to be a success, many
people are needed to volunteer. If you can help out with this very worthwhile
and personally rewarding event, please contact Laura Gantert. The 2003 event
will take place on Saturday, January 25th.
Christmas Families
2002 was another successful and rewarding one for this yearly program that takes
place in December. Needy families in the area are identified and gifts are
bought and provided by the church family at Lord of Life. We are in need for a
coordinator of this event for December 2003.
